At Leading Edge we’re more than a product manufacturer. First and foremost we’re a specialist height safety company that offers various training courses to clients. That enables us to design world-class safety-critical height safety equipment solutions. That’s why we are the safest choice for fall prevention. Discover more about the testing and certification of our tool tethers.

If you gamble with safety, you bet your life!

Did you know that a screwdriver dropped from a height of 10 metres has an impact force equivalent to the weight of a washing machine? Statistics show that around 30% of all dropped object incidents are related to design, technical or mechanical issues, but almost half can be attributed to human error.

That’s why it’s so important to master the process of selecting and applying cutting-edge drop prevention solutions for safe work at height. Our advanced tool tethering solutions enable workers to quickly and easily convert their existing tools for safe work at height activities.

We have a range of multi-purpose and tool specific tethers for hand tools weighing under 5kg. Learn how to safely tether your tools with the Leading Edge wrap tether, which is an effective way to prevent dropped tools and enhance safety on the job site.

How to use a wrap tether

1. Extend the tape and separate the textured lining.

2. Hold the tape firmly against the tool, stretch until the width reduces by half and wrap two turns. DO NOT CUT THE TAPE!

3. Place the wrap tether onto the tool with the label facing up and the anchor point facing away from the end you use.

4. Wrap 5 turns around the red line whilst keeping the tape firmly stretched.

5. Continue to wrap along the length of the tether to the second red line. Maintain a 50% overlap on each rotation.

6. Finish with a further 5 turns, cut the tape and press firmly on the tether and wrap to ensure a tight fit.

Your wrap tethered tool is now safe to work at height when fixed to a tool lanyard and safe connection point.

How to use a shank tether

Tethering your tools with the Leading Edge shank tether is also a great way to enhance safety by preventing dropped tools. Our shank tether is remarkably quick and simple to use. Here’s how to do it effectively:

How it works

Before you start you will need to ensure the correct size of a shank tool tether is chosen for your chosen tool. You can pick the relevant shank tether from the charts below:

Now that you have chosen the correct shank tether follow these steps:

  • Ensure your tool is clean and dry
  • Choose a suitable area on your tool to tether
  • Position the tether onto this area
  • Heat the underside of the shank tether
  • Heat the top of the shank tether
  • Continue heating until clear adhesive is secreted from exposed edges at the end of the sleeve
  • Allow to cool and cure before use

Tethering your lightweight tools with the Leading Edge Wrap Tether and Shank Tether is an essential step in ensuring safety and efficiency on the job site. By securely attaching your tools, you not only minimise the risk of accidents but also enhance your productivity by keeping your tools within easy reach.
